Gunman Detained in Washington D.C. After Shooting Pastor in Idaho

The Secret Service said they have arrested an accused gunman in Washington D.C. after he fled Idaho and was caught throwing items over the White House fence Tuesday, March 9. Pastor Tim Remington of Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was shot six times in the parking lot of his church Sunday, March 6, just one day after leading the opening prayer at presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz’s rally in Idaho.

On Tuesday evening, former Marine Kyle Odom was detained in Washington D.C., and officials said the suspect has had a history of mental health issues. Remington is expected to make a full recovery and has regained consciousness.

Noted Christian Author Jerry Bridges Dies

The Christian world is mourning the loss of author Jerry Bridges, 86, in Colorado Springs Sunday, March 6. Some of Bridges most notable books include “The Pursuit of Holiness” and “The Practice of Godliness” and “The Discipline of Grace” and the to-be-published “The Blessing of Humility: Walk Within Your Calling,” among some 20 total books.

Christian blogger Tim Challies wrote of Bridges, “Very few authors have shaped me more than he did; very few books have played so important a role in my life and faith.”

Christian Counselor and Relationship Author Gary Smalley Dies

Gary Smalley, known for influencing Christian couples’ relationships and marriages through over 60 books and many public speaking engagements, died Sunday, March 6, his family announced via his public Facebook page.

Focus on the Family’s President Jim Daly remembered his friend, who appeared on the daily Christian radio show more than 50 times, “As staff members share their behind-the-scenes experiences with Gary today, I can’t help but nod in agreement: Gary was as gracious and witty in person as he was in his professional capacity.”

Smalley’s family has invited the public to join with them in their celebration of his life Saturday, March 19, in Missouri.

An “Oops” Moment for popular Christian Magazine ‘Christianity Today’

Management at magazine “Christianity Today” issued an apology via Twitter after an ad from a Chicago-area father appeared in the March issue, seeking a godly husband for his virgin, Christian daughter.

The ad played right into the hands of stereotypes of the Christian faith, and editor Mark Galli told the Chicago Tribune that the publication’s review for advertisements was not properly used.

The daughter, Rachel Stewart, said to Chicago-area media outlet the Daily Herald, “I’m not angry or embarrassed. I’m just nervous if this works out, next I’ll find my face plastered on a billboard.”
